Strength:

  • Department organizes several student centred curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and extension activities for their professional grooming.
  • Having a language lab with 21computers with iTellOrell software and internet connection.
  • Big contribution of students in College Gatherings, NSS activities, College magazine contribution, etc.
  • Good number of books in College library.
  • Fully qualified faculty for UG, PG and COCs.
  • Spoken English and soft skills training.
  • Career oriented courses for job opportunities.

Weakness:

  • Less no. of students’ participation from rural area in dept. events due to time limits.
  • Need of more teaching faculty in proportion students’ enrollment.
  • Women’s College, hence limitations to stay on campus for long time.
  • Lack of separate ICT class for organizing lectures and events.

Opportunity:

  • Opportunities to COC students to develop efficiency and competency.
  • Availability of jobs for careerists
  • Chances to develop a training and placement centre or finishing school to increase rate of employment.

Challenges:

  • Need to develop more communication skill programmes to upgrade students’ language competency.
  • Rural intake of students fails to respond dept. activities.
  • Increase in dropouts at final year degree since marriage becomes a hurdle.
  • Need of increase in ICT for all classes

 

Future Plans of the Department:

  • To concentrate upon introducing more skill development courses
  • To start departmental library and increase e-access to several resources
  • To get associated/ clubbed with national/ international universities/ agencies
  • To increase students’ participation at institutional and social responsibilities
  • To enable students strengthen their placement competency.
  • To help tribal and rural students avail more job opportunities.

About the Department

English is one of the major departments in the college from 1990. It offers general and special courses in English language and literature. It has a good number of students’ strength for UG, PG and Career Oriented Courses. The department has its strength in framing syllabus for COCs , conducting lectures with innovative approaches and retaining academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular excellence in the field of education.

  6. “Best English Speakers Competition” organized on occasion of the Birth Anniversary Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam on 15th Oct.2016. Miss. Ashwini Patil (TYBA) & Miss. Kimaya Mahale (SYBA) were declared as the Best English Speakers for the year- 2016-17.
  7. Mahale Kimaya and Miss. Badgujar Savita (SYBA) bagged Second Prize in University Level Poster Competition organized at GTP College, Nandurbar.

  9. A Guest lecture was organized for UG & PG students on “Role of Women in English Literature” by Prin.Dr.A.N.Mali (Ex.Regional Director, YCMOU) on 10th Feb.2017.
  10. A Guest lecture was organized for UG & PG students on “History of English Literature” by Mr.Dhiraj Vaishnav (Pratap College, Amalner) on 13th Feb.2017.
  11. Study Tour: An Educational tour was organized at Ajanta Caves and Padmalaya on 12 Feb 2017. Twenty five students got participated.
  12. English Day Celebrations was organized on 14th Feb.2017.
  13. A one day workshop of six hours was organized on “Spoken English Skills and Personality Development” on 14th Oct.2016. Sixty-five students got participation.
  14. Literary and Vocabulary Quiz Competition was organized for UG and PG students on 14th Feb.2017.
  15. A Paper Reading Competition was organized for MA English students on 16th Feb.2017.
  16. A Six-Day NET-SET Exam Preparation Workshop was organized from 20th through 25th Feb.2017. Total 35 participants attended out of which 23 belonged to the Dept. of English. Experts/Resource Persons such as- Dr.Bhupendra Kesur (Jalgaon), Mr. Atul Suryawanshi (Pachora), Dr.Vijay Chaudhari (Nandurbar), Mr. Nitin Patil (Amalner), Dr. Madhav Kadam (Nandurbar), Dr. V.S.Adhave (Mhasdi), Mr. Yogesh Patil (Chopda), Dr. Gajanan Khekade, Mr. Deepak Baviskar, Dr, Vinay Pawar, Mr. Atul Khose, Mr. Bharat Sonar, Dr. Rahul Saner, Dr. Gajanan Patil (Shirpur) guided the students.
  17. Prizes in book forms were given to students for Curricular and co-curricular activities organized during the AY-2016-17 on occasion of Prize Distribution Function on 8th March 2017.
